Meet Corey Walsh, LDN, RD

Corey Walsh has been a practicing dietitian for 13 years.  Initially, she studied music and radio production at Emerson College in Boston.  Realizing that this was not for her, she transferred to the University of New Hampshire and graduated with a Bachelors in Human and Animal Sciences in 1992.  Corey then went on to the University of Connecticut to complete a Dietetics internship in 1994. After one year of working in medical hospitals in New England, she returned to New Orleans to work at St. Charles General Hospital, where she was the hospital dietitian from 1995-1997.  In 1997, she began working with Susan G. Willard, LCSW and George C. Daul, MD, and their team of therapists and a veteran dietitian at the Tulane University Eating Disorders Program.  She has been fortunate to work and learn with these two nationally known practitioners their Team(s) over the past ten years, both in inpatient and outpatient settings.  She was a highly competent medical dietitian, but working in two psychiatric facilities and with highly skilled eating disorder specialists, helped shape her in ways she could not have done in a formal education.

She has worked promoting physical and emotional wellness of children, adolescents, and adults struggling with the life threatening diseases of Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, and other related disorders.  In 2001, she created Real Life Nutrition Counseling, an outpatient counseling practice.  The clientele are local, national, and international.  She has dedicated her career to enhancing the quality of life, and saving lives of patients.

After nine years of working in psychiatric facilities with the Eating Disorder team, she moved into full-time outpatient counseling in the fall of 2006.  She has enthusiastically expanded Real Life beyond eating disorder treatment.  There is a very wide range within which disordered eating occurs.  Her intentions are to help people in not only, the physical sense, but also the emotional and behavioral senses. Her philosophies are around moderation, balance, and variety, promoting full quality life within an individuals’ lifestyle.  Through emotional and physical intuition, and behavioral techniques she lays the foundation for the support an individual may require for guidance in making peace with food and their bodies.  Her intentions are to make a difference in physical health, self acceptance and body image of children, adolescents, and adults.  By history, other areas of focus have been obesity/weight loss, Diabetes Mellitus, sports nutrition, and general wellness.

Corey Walsh has devoted her career to preventing and supporting individuals struggling with the uphill battle of eating disorder recovery.  She has shown and continues to demonstrate passion, determination, and diligence with a disease that has a low recovery rate and a high death rate.
